Garden landscape lighting design skills

2020-04-03

The object of garden lighting is different from indoor lighting and architectural environment lighting. Its main purpose is to enhance the effect of scenery and create a night landscape. Therefore, in the type of light source, try to choose a light source with better direction and control ability, and reduce the use of ordinary flood lighting.

Different gardens have quite different requirements for lighting. In order to show the beautiful shapes of buildings, sculptures, flowers, trees, and other landscapes in the garden, the lighting methods should be different from scene to scene, and their projection lights should also be used as needed The strength is changed in order to show their own charm at night; the street lights on both sides of the garden road should be uniform and continuous to meet the needs of safety.

In order to make the small space appear larger, you can only illuminate the necessary parts and place the rest in the shadow; for large outdoor spaces, the treatment is the opposite, which will give the large space a sense of intimacy.

Outdoor lighting should use the dimmer on the light source carefully. On most garden lights that use incandescent lamps as the light source, the use of dimmers will make the light yellow, and cast a yellow color on the illuminated objects, especially for plants, it will show a pathological state and lose the original vitality.

Color filters or color LEDs are also best to use less, because the light projected by them will cause distortion, which will cause some unrealism to plants. Of course, the sky blue filter is an exception. It can eliminate the yellow tone in the incandescent lamp and turn the light into a pleasant blue and white light. Small filters or other accessories can cause huge changes in the entire landscape, which should be paid attention to in the design.

The brightness of the light should be determined according to the needs of the activity and to ensure safety. Too bright or too dark will cause discomfort to the visitors. The lighting design should pay particular attention to glare. Hiding the lamp in the flowers and trees can provide the necessary lighting without causing glare.

To determine the lighting range of the light, the position of the light, that is, the height, angle, and light distribution of the light must be considered, and the size, light and darkness of the shadow formed during lighting must be coordinated with the environment and atmosphere to facilitate the use of light and shadow to set off nature and create a certain Scene and atmosphere. This should be a careful observation of the surrounding space during the day, and calculations and adjustments to determine the best landscape lighting effect.

Here are some common scene lighting:
Tree projection lighting

1, the flood light is generally placed on the ground, and the arrangement is determined according to the type and appearance of the trees;

2, if you want to illuminate a higher position on the tree, you can place a metal pole at the same height as the irradiation position next to the tree to install the lamp;

3. Install a string of low-power incandescent bulbs or LED lamp beads on the main branch of a deciduous tree to obtain the decorative effect;

4. For a flood light that must be installed on a tree, the installation ring attached to the tree branch must be able to be adjusted according to the law of plant growth;

5. The lighting of trees should be artistic.

Illumination of flower beds
 1. For the flower bed on the ground plane, the downward lighting is called a magic valley-type lamp. The lamp is often placed at the center or edge of the flower bed. The height of the lamp depends on the height of the flower;

2. Incandescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, metal halide lamps and LED light sources are commonly used as the light source, and a light source with a relatively high color rendering index is used.

Decorative lighting for statues
1. The number and arrangement of lighting points depends on the type of the illuminated target;
2. Determine the position of the lamp according to the position of the illuminated target and the surrounding environment:
A. Lighting targets located in the middle of grass or open space in isolation, the lamps should be flush with the ground as much as possible to maintain the surrounding appearance;
B. If the lighting target is located in the middle of the grass or in the open space in isolation, if it is located on the base, the lamp is placed far away to avoid the shadow on the bottom of the illuminated target due to the blocking of the base;
C. If the target is located on the base, if it is close to the pedestrian, the lamp should be fixed on the public lighting pole or the facade of the nearby building.

3, for the statue, often illuminate the subject part of the face and the front of the image, when choosing the irradiation direction, avoid creating shadows on the face of the statue;

4. For some sculptures, the color of the light should be coordinated with the color of the sculpture material

Waterscape lighting
1. Illumination of still waters and lakes: the lamps illuminate the scene on the shore, which can form reflections on the water surface; the objects on the shore can be illuminated by floodlights immersed in water; for dynamic water surfaces, the floodlights can be used to directly illuminate the water surface ;
2. Illumination of fountains: In the case of water jets, install the floodlights behind the nozzles in the pool, or after the water drops back to the drop point in the pool, or install the lamps in both places. The three primary colors of red, blue and yellow are often used, followed by green;
3. Lighting for waterfalls: For water currents and waterfalls, lamps should be installed at the bottom of the water drop.
